“PLANET APPLICATION”

Main Idea
Our lives are flooded with applications on mobile phones, tablets and laptops. After discussing with students we decided to create an app for android devices. It’s subject will be our planetary system.

Learning Activities

Description

First of all we guide students on how to design the graphic surface for the user. So they will learn what an application design is. Then they will learn the selection structure and how to use it to make the application buttons work. At the beginning of the process we share a worksheet with instructions for the App Inventor and our application. The main purpose is students on their own to discover the methods and procedures to make the application. Students step by step will have to find the algorithm themselves in order to make the game.

1.Students work in groups in order to discuss and decide how their application is going to looks like.

2. We will give to the students a document with the basic tools of App Inventor.

3. We will try to give them directions of how to modify the algorithm.

4. Students should understand how to use WHEN Function in order to get a result when we a button Clicked.

A discussion should take place in class

1.Can we use the same code (with small differences) to create another game with different subject? Let’s think about reusable code….!

2.Can we expand the app and add information about more galaxies?

3.Is it possible to create a data base to store all this information and pass it to another same apps?
